Okra Plant
by Chase Perryman
she cuts her hand on an okra plant
blood is falling to the ground and then
she laughs, it's just been that kind of day
and I don't know when
I'll ever love this much again
her bond is thicker than this flesh and bone
my heart is heavy as the largest stone
it falls deep into my chest
and I don't know when
I'll ever love this much again
she gives it water and she hopes it grows
sometimes there's more thorn than rose
she knows, but takes it all in stride
and I don't know when
I'll ever love this much again
it takes a man to love a heart like hers
her strength is solid as the roots in earth
and I know I am lucky she's mine
and I don't know when
I'll ever love this much again
and I know that I'll never
love anyone as much or as ever
and I know, yes I know, yes I know
that she's only a little tired
at the moment
honey lay down your shield and sword
and come closer
if every tear equaled a pound of dirt
I would fill up every stream on earth
if she was lost from me
and I don't know when
I'll ever love this much again
